About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) is hiring a Regional Attorney for Region 2. The role provides senior legal counsel for an LDH region encompassing numerous parishes and supports the department’s mission to protect and promote health and ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for Louisiana residents.

The incumbent independently provides highly technical legal direction, advice, assistance, consultation, and representation, with direct influence on regional operations. The position advises on complex and high-profile health law matters and supports major LDH programs, facilities, and offices in Region 2. It also serves as backup to the Region 3 Regional Attorney and provides legal advice and consultation to Executive Counsel, General Counsel, and Deputy General Counsels.

The position is located in the Office of the Secretary, Legal, in East Baton Rouge Parish. It may be filled as a probationary, promotional, or job appointment; a job appointment is temporary and may last up to 48 months. The position is eligible for a Special Entrance Rate of $35.22 per hour, or $2,817.60 bi-weekly.

Requirements

• Possess a current Louisiana license to practice law.
• Have at least four years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Have broad and intensive legal experience in all phases of the legal process regarding health law.

Responsibilities

• Independently provide highly technical legal direction, advice, assistance, consultation, and representation for LDH Region 2.
• Advise on complex and high-profile legal problems involving regional LDH activities and health law.
• Support regional programs including the Office of Behavioral Health, Office of Intellectual & Developmental Disability Supports, Medicaid, Human Resources, Adult Protective Services, Office of Public Health, and Office of Women's Health.
• Provide legal support to LDH facilities, including contracted facilities, and offices located in Region 2.
• Provide highly technical legal advice, assistance, and consultation to Executive Counsel, General Counsel, and Deputy General Counsels.
• Serve as backup to the LDH Region 3 Regional Attorney.
