About The Position

This position is a junior-level attorney role within the procurement practice division, specifically working with the general procurement practice group. This group supports the Division of Real Estate Development and Management, the Division of Specialized Services (which handles fleet management and federal surplus property), and the Division of Retirement. The attorney will gain proficiency in state and federal laws relevant to these program areas and will provide strategic legal advice and counsel in procurement, rulemaking, contracts, data privacy, and public safety. The role may also involve assisting with litigation for these program areas. The position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in procuring and negotiating contracts with large vendors. The fast-paced and evolving environment of the supported program areas provides ongoing exposure to new subject matter and the chance to assist in structuring and implementing new programs in compliance with Florida and federal law. As the Department plays a significant role in administering procurement policies for all state agencies, this position allows the candidate to learn and contribute to best practices in procurement.

Requirements

  • A juris doctor from an accredited law school by June 2026.
  • Admission to, and good standing with, the Florida Bar within one year of hire.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to recognize and anticipate problems and risks, gather information and proactively make recommendations, facilitate problem solving, and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while paying close attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and timely complete work assignments.
  • Ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of a potential action.
  • Ability to identify different approaches to problems.
  • Ability to research and summarize complex topics using a variety of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal advice and counsel in the areas of procurement, rulemaking, contracts, data privacy, and public safety.
