About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Justice, led by the Attorney General of North Carolina, represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials, and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions. This position is located in the Public Assistance Section of the Health and Human Services Division of the NC Department of Justice. The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal support to the Division of Health Benefits within the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services regarding Medicaid managed care transformation; contracting support including reviewing and negotiating contracts, addressing contract performance issues, providing legal advice on procurements and evaluations, assistance with contract performance issues; review of communication materials and other documents; responding to public record requests and subpoenas; responding to CMS, OIG, and OSA inquiries/audits; and member and provider appeals and grievances. The position will provide legal services to all sections within the Division of Health Benefits. The position provides other legal services to DHHS as the need arises. It also provides such other legal services as may be assigned by the Office of the Attorney General, such as representing the State in non-capital criminal appeals.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar
  • One year of professional legal experience.

  • Experience practicing before the Office of Administrative Hearings or other administrative tribunals

Responsibilities
