About The Position

This position is for an Attorney within the Criminal Division of the County Attorney's Office in Bisbee. The role is unclassified and not entitled to the rights provided by the Merit System Rules. Applications are reviewed upon receipt and the position may close at any time. The anticipated salary ranges from $100,000 to $130,000 annually, dependent upon qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits package including membership in the Arizona State Retirement System. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the State Bar of Arizona.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant legal experience (Attorney II).
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant legal experience (Attorney III).
  • Seven (7) years of relevant legal experience (Attorney IV).
  • Significant trial or litigation experience required (Attorney IV).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Ability to be covered by county insurance.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of law.
  • Thorough knowledge of legal procedures and administrative proceedings.
  • Thorough knowledge of methods and practices of pleadings.
  • Thorough knowledge of judicial procedures and the rules of evidence.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, materials, practices, and references utilized in legal research.
  • Considerable skill in applying legal knowledge and training.
  • Considerable skill in determining alternative courses of action.
  • Considerable skill in analyzing, appraising, and organizing facts, evidence, and precedents.
  • Considerable skill in rendering logical, clear, and effective written reports and oral arguments.
  • Considerable skill in presenting and arguing cases in court.
  • Considerable skill in handling unanticipated problems smoothly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional legal services of considerable difficulty (Attorney II).
  • Provides professional legal services of unusual difficulty (Attorney III & IV).
  • Performs other legal services as assigned.
  • Mentors junior staff (Attorney II).
  • Handles appeals, special actions, and post-conviction relief matters (Attorney II).
  • Conducts jury trials of moderate difficulty as first chair (Attorney II).
  • Handles complex felony cases or the highest volume of misdemeanor cases with limited supervision (Attorney III).
  • Initiates, engages, and defends litigation (Attorney IV).
  • Performs legal research, organizational, and administrative duties (Attorney IV).
  • Reviews and prepares legal documents (Attorney IV).
  • Renders legal advice to clients (Attorney IV).
  • Performs factual investigations (Attorney IV).
  • Handles appeals (Attorney IV).
  • Experience in conducting jury trials and handling cases of the most complex in nature as first chair (Attorney IV).
