About The Position

Cache County Corporation is seeking a Deputy County Attorney I–IV to join its Attorney’s Office. Under the direction of the County Attorney, the Deputy County Attorney performs professional legal duties to support the efficient and effective litigation of criminal cases within Cache County. The role provides close to general supervision of Legal Assistants on a project-by-project basis and may oversee work and assign work to lower-level attorneys.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• License to practice law in the State of Utah.
• Attorney II: one to two years of experience practicing as an attorney.
• Attorney III: three to five years of experience practicing as an attorney.
• Attorney IV: six to eight years of experience practicing as an attorney.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute felony and misdemeanor cases in district, justice, and juvenile courts.
• Review law enforcement investigations to screen for potential charges, determine the nature of cases and whether charges should be brought, and follow established procedures to prepare, process, and pursue charges.
• Conduct legal research; draft pleadings; gather and analyze evidence; and prepare writs, subpoenas, warrants, petitions, affidavits, and other legal documents.
• Represent the State at arraignments, bail hearings, preliminary hearings, trials, sentencings, and settlement negotiations.
• Interview victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers to prepare evidence for hearings.
• Submit reports informing the County Attorney of assigned case status.
• Collaborate with support staff.
• Provide the public with general assistance regarding law, legal rights, victim remedies, and related legal processes.
• Provide project-by-project supervision to Legal Assistants and, as applicable, oversee and assign work to lower-level attorneys.
