About The Position
Fort Bend County is seeking an Attorney I for the District Attorney's Office. This role involves presenting cases to judges and grand juries, representing victims in court, conducting trials, and negotiating plea bargains. The attorney will also review complaints, conduct legal research, and provide legal advice to county departments and law enforcement agencies. Additionally, the position requires preparing arrest and search warrants, meeting with victims and witnesses, and potentially supervising other employees. The role also includes participation in emergency management activities during a disaster.
Requirements
- Doctor of Jurisprudence degree
- One year job related experience
- Computer, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials
- Trial advocacy, legal research and library skills
- Licensed by Supreme Court of Texas
Responsibilities
- Presents cases to judges and grand jury
- Represents victims of crimes at court proceedings
- Conducts trials of criminal, misdemeanor and juvenile cases
- Presents cases to judges for obtaining protective orders for assault victims
- Negotiates plea bargains and bond reductions in criminal and juvenile cases
- Reviews all complaints for contested criminal and juvenile cases
- Conducts legal research
- Reads and reviews offense reports and probable cause statements
- Consults with and provides legal advice to appropriate County departments
- Responds to inquiries from the public, resolves and/or refers to proper person
- Provides counsel to law enforcement agencies and personnel as required
- Prepares arrest and search warrants for law enforcement officers
- Meets and assists with victims, witnesses, defendants and other outside agencies
- Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties
- Assigns, plans and reviews work of other employees
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers
