About The Position

Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP is seeking a full-time attorney admitted in New York State with at least three years of experience in Family and Matrimonial matters to join our Cortland office. Coughlin & Gerhart proudly dates back to the 1890s and has grown to include nine offices in New York and Pennsylvania. Requirements

  • Current New York Bar admission.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • 3+ years of Family and Matrimonial experience preferred.
  • Desire to develop and further legal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the firm’s clients in family and matrimonial law matters, including divorce, custody, child support, adoption, spousal support, and family offense proceedings.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including pleadings, motions, separation agreements, stipulations, and settlement agreements.
  • Advocate for clients in court appearances, conferences, hearings, mediations, and trials across the Firm’s New York geographic footprint.
  • Manage cases from inception through resolution while ensuring deadlines and procedural requirements are met.
  • Conduct legal research and interpret applicable laws, rulings, and regulations related to family and matrimonial law matters.
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding case strategy, legal rights, and potential outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate case files, documentation, and correspondence in accordance with firm standards.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, court personnel, and outside professionals to support case management and client service.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and strong attention to detail in all matters.
  • Utilize analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to support favorable client outcomes.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal and communication skills when working with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and internal teams.
