About The Position

The Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) is seeking an Attorney 1 to serve as a Research Attorney in the Commission's Administrative Hearings Division. This role provides legal and technical research, writing, and organizational assistance to administrative law judges who oversee complex regulatory cases involving the infrastructure, processes, and finances of various industries including electric, gas, water, sewer, telecommunications, railroad, and transportation. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in public utility and common carrier regulation in Louisiana, enhance legal research and writing skills, and observe trial litigation.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice law.

Responsibilities

  • Assist administrative law judges throughout the duration of each matter by maintaining case charts.
  • Conduct necessary legal or technical research.
  • Draft documents including rulings, notices, reports, recommendations, and orders.
  • Prepare confidential memoranda.
  • Assist with calendaring docket-related events and deadlines in Outlook.
  • Attend hearings and status conferences.
  • Prepare draft reports/rulings.
  • Act as a liaison between the parties and the assigned administrative law judge, responding to procedural questions.
