About The Position

The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Pediatric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painful invasive and diagnostic procedures. The primary clinical sites for this position are the Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) hospitals located in the Denver Metro region. This premier hospital system, which has been highly ranked among pediatric hospitals for almost two decades, is a 600-bed tertiary care system, located along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. The flagship hospital is on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado with a level IV NICU and Level 1 pediatric trauma capabilities. With 4 hospitals, 16 network of care locations and more than 500 outreach clinics in over 29 cities, the CHCO network serves the children of Colorado and the 6-state surrounding region.

Requirements

Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
Expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Completed ACGME fellowship training in clinical pediatric anesthesiology (to be considered for Assistant Professor rank).

Board certification in pediatric anesthesiology is highly desirable and expected within 2 years of employment.

Responsibilities

Administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists and certified anesthesiologist assistants.
Examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.
Performs services in the operating room, radiology, and in the outpatient procedure center.
Contributes to the teaching needs of the Department and the School, which may include preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction.
Contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.
