About The Position

Under the direction of the Psychiatry Department Chair and the Ambulatory Adult Division Chief, the Psychiatrist provides psychiatric assessment and management of patients with co-morbid medical disease and mental illness. The incumbent provides initial psychiatric consultations, including but not limited to ongoing medication management in the outpatient settings in Cook County (CCH).

Requirements

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree from an accredited college, university, or foreign equivalent is required
  • Completion of accredited General Psychiatry Residency Program is required
  • Active Illinois and Federal controlled substance license or ability to obtain two (2) weeks prior to starting employment is required
  • Active Illinois physician and surgeon license or ability to obtain two (2) weeks prior to starting employment is required
  • Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is required
  • Must meet requirements for staff privileges granted by the Executive Medical Staff of John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital is required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Medication Assisted Treatment is preferred
  • Prior experience in Telepsychiatry is preferred
  • Bilingual is preferred
  • Certification in addiction medicine is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides general psychiatric assessment to referred patients in the Ambulatory Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic.
  • Provides ongoing medication management to these patients.
  • Provides direct patient care to medically ill patients in the Ambulatory Outpatient Clinic to ensure safety, evaluate need for further hospitalization, and provide appropriate pharmacotherapy.
  • Provides education to patients, students, medical residents and clinic staff regarding mental health screening and treatment within a medical practice.
  • Documents all encounters with patients in medical record and communicates diagnoses and treatment recommendations to appropriate medical staff.
  • Reports any cases of abuse or neglect in accordance with State of Illinois Law and CCH Policies.
  • Refers patients to appropriate psychiatric, medical and social services.
  • Maintains active licensure with the State of Illinois, active credentials with Cook County Health, and active board certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Engages in Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation within the Department.
  • Attends required meetings, participates in assigned committees, and completes routine duties (on call duties) assigned.
  • Participates in necessary peer review and quality assurance activities.
  • Provides periods of coverage for other psychiatrists in different settings within the system (primarily in the Stroger inpatient and emergency settings), as needed.
