About The Position

Brown University Athletics is seeking candidates for multiple seasonal Athletics Public Address Announcer positions. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 38 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-DI). The public address announcer is responsible for informing everyone in the attendance at an athletic contest any and all pertinent information that is occurring during the event. In addition, the PA announcer must do commercial “reads” throughout the game or event. The ability to annunciate clearly and accurately and project to a large crowd is necessary. In addition, knowledge of the event, and its rules, and the appropriate time to announce is extremely important.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of a given sports rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, specific game protocol as it pertains to Ivy League and NCAA rules.
  • Excellent speaking voice and ability to project and annunciate.
  • Ability to read announcements in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to observe and react to events on the field/court/athletic venue in order to accurately announce information.
  • Must submit an application form for each position.
  • Must include a cover letter and resume with each position application.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification is available at no cost through the Division for AED/CPR and First Aid certification for employees in coaching positions.

Responsibilities

  • Informing everyone in attendance at an athletic contest any and all pertinent information that is occurring during the event.
  • Doing commercial “reads” throughout the game or event.
  • Observing and reacting to events on the field/court/athletic venue in order to accurately announce information.
  • Demonstrating exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Performing duties in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League rules and regulations.
  • Reporting any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division to the compliance office and appropriate parties.
