About The Position

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is seeking candidates for the seasonal Athletics Event Worker position. This role, located in Providence, Rhode Island, supports the intercollegiate athletics program which includes 34 varsity teams and approximately 1,000 athletes participating in NCAA-DI. The seasonal position, running from August to June, will assist game day management staff with various tasks such as operating the penalty box, scoreboard operations, and other assigned duties. The role involves assisting with facility setup and breakdown, learning specific game protocols for the Ivy League and NCAA, and interacting with Athletic Communications, Event Management, and Marketing and Promotions staff. In-game responsibilities may include being a ball person for outdoor sports, mopping the floor during basketball games, operating the penalty box for hockey, and assisting with score distribution in gymnastics.

Requirements

Knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn, specific game protocol as it pertains to Ivy League and NCAA rules
Must be able to observe and react quickly to events on the field/court/athletic venue
Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment
Must be available to work evenings and weekends
Successful completion of a background check and education verification

Nice To Haves

Current AED/CPR and First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division)

Responsibilities

Assist with facility setup and breakdown for various sports throughout the academic year
Operate the penalty box
Help with scoreboard operations
Perform other tasks as assigned
Be a ball person for outdoor sports
Mop the floor during basketball games
Assist with the distribution of judge scores during gymnastics events
Interact with and work alongside Athletic Communications staff, Event Management staff, and Marketing and Promotions staff
