About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Athletics Assistant assists with the administration and operation of athletic programs and events for the City of Holland Parks & Recreation Department. This position helps oversee leagues, programs, and events while providing customer service, supervising participants, and supporting overall program operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license required and ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and the public in a professional manner.
  • Ability to lead programs and supervise participants in a positive, organized, and professional environment.
  • Ability to remain organized, manage multiple tasks, and adapt in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to enforce rules, policies, and safety procedures with consistency, tact, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in the best interest of the City of Holland and Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Ability to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and occasional special events as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework in recreation, sports management, education, event management, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working in athletics, recreation, customer service, youth programs, or event operations preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of recreation, athletics, league operations, and customer service practices preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with the public, staff, volunteers, participants, and parents in a professional and positive manner.
  • Assist with the operation and supervision of athletic programs, leagues, and events.
  • Help coordinate schedules, team communication, customer service, and event operations.
  • Assist with game day and event setup and teardown.
  • Maintain rosters, standings, scores, and other program records as needed.
  • Assist with youth sports instruction and program leadership.
  • Address participant concerns and report issues to supervisors as needed.
  • Handle accidents and injuries in accordance with City policies and procedures, including required documentation.
  • Maintain discipline and encourage compliance with program and safety rules.
  • Provide a high level of customer service while representing the City in a professional manner.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and department events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
