The Academic Mentor fosters academic skills in students with varying levels of academic ability. Mentoring focuses on the five BullsLearn Academic Skills: reading, writing, time-management/organization, note-taking, and study/test-taking skills. Sessions emphasize time-management and organization, prepare students to complete assignments effectively, and provide time to apply advised learning strategies and assignment-completion plans. The mentor reinforces academic expectations and accountability standards, manages an assigned student-athlete caseload, and facilitates individual academic-skills sessions. The role includes monitoring session attendance, preparedness, and engagement; documenting outcomes and tracking progress toward academic goals; and communicating concerns or trends to staff as appropriate. The position requires effective time management, punctuality, and accurate recordkeeping in accordance with departmental policies.
