About The Position

This 12-month residency program is designed to provide Athletic Trainers with broad clinical experience. Residents will rotate through various specialties including surgeons, non-operative physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include seeing patients in office and field settings, performing physical examinations, and assisting with surgeries. The resident will be responsible for patient care decisions and will assist surgeons in the OR upon receiving Orthopaedic Technologist certification. Requirements

  • Successful completion of four academic years of pre-professional and professional study in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an Orthopaedic Technologist (required to assist surgeons in the OR).

Responsibilities

  • Assists physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting, suture removal, vitals, patient communication, and referrals for physical therapy, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and other treatments.
  • Assists physicians in operating room procedures and communicates necessary information and instructions to patients for pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Enters patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR), including starting a note with patient history to provide the beginning of a dictation for their physician.
  • Fills out pre-operative paperwork for each patient before surgery, including physical therapy prescriptions, post-operative orders, post-operative medications, and the surgical procedure note.
  • Works and communicates with the clinic team to ensure optimal patient care and experience.
