About The Position

The Athletic Training Resident position is aimed at providing Athletic Trainers with a broad clinical experience through twelve (12) months of rotations. Residents will rotate between surgeons, non-operative physicians, and other healthcare professionals, seeing patients in both office and field settings. Key responsibilities include performing physical examinations and assisting with surgeries. The resident will be responsible for making decisions regarding appropriate patient care and will be able to assist surgeons in the operating room upon receiving certification as an Orthopaedic Technologist. Requirements

  • Successful completion of four academic years of pre-professional and professional study in a specialized curriculum accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians in clinical care, including triage, casting, suture removal, vitals, communications with patients, and referrals for physical therapy, diagnostic studies, surgeries, and all other additional treatments.
  • Assist physicians in operating room procedures and communicate necessary information and instructions to patients for pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Enter patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR), specifically starting a note in the patient's chart which will include their history to provide the start of a dictation for their physician.
  • Fill out any pre-operative paperwork for each patient before they are taken back to surgery, including physical therapy prescriptions, post-operative orders, post-operative medications, and the surgical procedure note.
  • Work and communicate with the rest of their clinic team to ensure the best possible patient care and experience.
