About The Position

Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Athletic Trainer to provide comprehensive healthcare and sports medicine services to our student-athletes. The Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Athletic Director and is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and management of athletic injuries and illnesses while working collaboratively with coaches, athletic administration, school personnel, parents/guardians, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. This part-time position has the potential to become full-time if the selected candidate is willing to teach high school classes.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited institution.
Current Board of Certification (BOC) certification as an Athletic Trainer.
Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure, as required.
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Knowledge of concussion management, injury prevention, rehabilitation, emergency care, and return-to-play procedures.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with adolescents, parents/guardians, coaches, administrators, and medical professionals.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with high school student-athletes preferred.
Previous experience working in a school athletic environment.
Experience developing and implementing Emergency Action Plans.
Experience working with high school athletic programs and multiple sports.
Familiarity with athletic participation requirements, physical forms, concussion protocols, and student-athlete medical documentation.
Ability to provide education and professional development for coaches and athletic staff.

Responsibilities

Provide athletic training coverage for practices, competitions, and other athletic events as assigned.
Evaluate and assess athletic injuries and illnesses.
Provide appropriate first aid, injury management, and immediate care.
Establish and oversee appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans.
Monitor student-athletes during the rehabilitation and return-to-play process.
Make appropriate referrals to physicians, specialists, physical therapists, or other medical professionals when necessary.
Maintain accurate and confidential medical and injury records.
Monitor student-athlete health concerns and communicate appropriate information to parents/guardians and school personnel.
Develop, maintain, and implement Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for athletic facilities and events in coordination with the Athletic Director and appropriate school personnel.
Ensure athletic facilities have appropriate emergency equipment and supplies, including AEDs and first-aid equipment.
Respond appropriately to athletic emergencies and coordinate with emergency medical services when necessary.
Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
Assist in educating coaches and athletic staff on emergency procedures, concussion protocols, heat illness, sudden cardiac arrest, and other sports-related medical concerns.
Help monitor environmental conditions, including heat and weather, and make appropriate recommendations regarding participation when safety is a concern.
Implement the school's concussion management procedures.
Evaluate student-athletes with suspected concussions and remove them from participation when appropriate.
Coordinate medical clearance and return-to-play protocols.
Communicate with parents/guardians, physicians, coaches, teachers, and administrators as appropriate.
Maintain appropriate documentation of concussion evaluations and return-to-play progress.
Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director to support the overall health and safety of the athletic program.
Maintain regular communication with coaches regarding student-athlete injuries, restrictions, and return-to-play status.
Communicate professionally and appropriately with parents/guardians regarding injuries and medical concerns.
Establish positive working relationships with team physicians, local healthcare providers, physical therapists, and emergency medical personnel.
Attend athletic department meetings and staff development opportunities as appropriate.
Provide coaches and athletic staff with appropriate medical information and recommendations while maintaining student privacy and confidentiality.
Help ensure coaches understand and follow school and athletic department medical procedures.
Assist with preseason health and safety preparation.
Maintain and inventory athletic training supplies and equipment.
Recommend necessary medical supplies, equipment, and facility improvements to the Athletic Director.
Assist with student-athlete physicals, medical clearances, and required health documentation as appropriate.
