About The Position

The Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive sports medicine services to student-athletes across the district. Reporting to the High School Activities Director, you will manage everything from daily practice coverage to emergency response at home and away events. You will develop individualized recovery plans, lead safety training for coaches, and serve as the critical liaison between families, school staff, and external physicians. This position is grant-funded and full-time, operating on a professional staff exempt schedule that includes the teacher work calendar plus the extended athletic season (July – June). Daily hours vary based on practices, competitions, and seasonal needs, averaging 6 hours/day. The role requires the ability to respond quickly in emergencies and occasionally exert 50–100 lbs.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Missouri Athletic Training License.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Hold current BLS (Basic Life Support), First Aid, and First Responder certifications.
  • Must hold (or be willing to obtain) BLS/Heart Savers Instructor Certification.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation to travel between buildings and events.
  • Flexibility to work a schedule that follows the athletic season.
  • Ability to maintain the Missouri weight assessment program for wrestling.
  • Ability to manage AED/medical equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in sports medicine or working with adolescent athletes is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert evaluation, immediate care, and long-term treatment plans for all athletic injuries.
  • Educate athletes and coaches on safe training practices, conditioning, and proper hydration/weather safety.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential medical records in strict compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Lead CPR and First Aid training sessions for district coaches and staff to ensure a district-wide culture of safety.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all athletic venues.
  • Serve as the professional link between school personnel, families, and external healthcare providers to ensure seamless care.
  • Manage the Missouri weight assessment program for wrestling.
  • Manage AED/medical equipment.
