The Athletic Trainer - Sports Medicine performs injury assessments and refers patients for necessary care. They communicate with patients to triage, answer questions, and instruct in self-care, prevention, and treatment. This role involves communicating with physicians and the medical team to determine the need for special tests or services. The Athletic Trainer establishes a plan of care, implements individual treatments based on evaluation results and health goals using appropriate techniques, and communicates this plan to all involved parties. They monitor and evaluate outcomes, adjusting the treatment plan as needed based on patient response. The position requires recognizing potential issues, advocating for patients by working with physicians and key professionals, and identifying factors affecting patient comfort. The Athletic Trainer must be able to work with a diverse patient population, plan and complete patient after-visit summaries, including providing written home exercise programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, and ordering equipment. They are responsible for completing all required documentation following department policy, including patient assessment, progress notes, and after-visit summaries. The role involves various patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties that require lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development and assessing data reflective of patient status to meet age-specific needs.
