About The Position

Provides leadership for athletic training services and programs within sports medicine. Represents Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta effectively in the school and community environment. Proactively supports efforts of Manager, Community Outreach to develop a Metro Atlanta and state and/or region clinical outreach program that will result in increased system referrals and cultivate an advocacy relationship with key/potential referral sources supporting the identified business and marketing strategies. Functions effectively as a member of the sports medicine team to support the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta mission.

Requirements

  • 5 years of clinical experience in athletic training
  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • National Athletic Trainer’s Association certified athletic trainer (ATC)
  • Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Competence in the identification, care, and follow up of on-field and sports-related injuries
  • Clinical competencies in treatment aspects for sports medicine patients
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and team building skills
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule and perform a variety of work-related tasks as needed
  • Good mental and physical health
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Manager, Community Outreach throughout business planning process to propose new business initiatives that would strengthen the sports medicine clinics and athletic trainer services and better serve community needs.
  • Markets and promotes orthopedic/sports medicine services locally through professional meetings, facility visits, or community outreach activities.
  • Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides clinical follow-up and referral as necessary.
  • Performs clinical leadership by demonstrating the highest level of sports medicine treatment.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians and members of the sports medicine team.
  • Fosters positive environment for team collaboration and effective problem-solving.
  • Assists Manager, Community Outreach with input of time call and scheduling of event coverage for certified athletic trainers.
  • Assists Manager, Community Outreach with annual reviews of supervised certified athletic trainers.
  • Delivers competent age-appropriate patient care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age.
  • Integrates infection control, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development into provision of patient care.
  • Demonstrates clinical competence in the provision of effective service delivery appropriate to patient-specific needs through on-field assessment, care, and prevention of injuries by taping, bracing, and preventive exercises.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians, coaches, and administrators regarding athletes.
  • Completes daily training room documentation.
  • Identifies patient need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
  • Assists Manager, Community Outreach with operational duties and other responsibilities as required.
  • Participates in maintaining and monitoring the work environment to ensure a continual state of Joint Commission readiness.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the staff, including but not limited to work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.
  • Take an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.
  • Assist manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.
