About The Position

The Athletic Trainer position is responsible for coordinating the sports medicine outreach activities at an assigned high school in a cost effective manner. The Athletic Trainer also organizes and provides medical coverage at outreach events. The Athletic Trainer utilizes the outreach event coverage to increase the public’s awareness of Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field.
  • One year of experience in a similar position, preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software and similar computer applications.
  • Ability to operate and tow sports medicine trailer (18’ or 20’ trailer attached to one-ton pickup), a plus.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer by National Athletic Trainers Association.
  • Current or eligible for Colorado Athletic Training Licensure.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, required.
  • Position requires acceptable motor vehicle driving history, valid and free from restrictions, and must have a valid driver’s license and appropriate vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Ability to travel between all OCR locations.
  • May be assigned to drive OCR owned one-ton pickup with or without a 18 or 20 foot trailer to outreach events.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates the extent of the patient’s disabilities to determine appropriate treatment programs.
  • Instructs and guides professional and amateur athletes.
  • Assesses physical condition and gives advice and assists with professional and amateur athletes' treatments to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.
  • Prescribes routine and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles.
  • Uses a variety of tests, such as manual muscle test, goniometry, functional testing, and gait analysis in the treatment programs.
  • Plans therapy programs and administers treatment to restore body function and strength, relieve pain and prevent disability.
  • Utilizes various therapeutic techniques such as exercise programs, facilitation techniques, muscle reeducation, gait training, hydrotherapy, and electrotherapy.
  • Utilizes various equipment and prosthetic and orthotic devices in the treatment programs.
  • Provides and demonstrates instructions to the patient.
  • Maintains medical records of evaluation, treatment, and progress of each patient.
  • Orders and maintains sports outreach supplies, in coordination with the manager of purchasing.
  • Tracks and maintains database of referrals from sports outreach activities.
  • Coordinates medical coverage at sports outreach events.
  • Develops sports outreach opportunities for Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies.
  • Maintains therapy proficiency by keeping abreast of new orthopaedic procedures and therapy techniques.
  • Participates in workshops, seminars, and other applicable continuing education opportunities.
  • Promotes learning by staying attuned to trends and developments in therapy, especially as they relate to orthopaedics.
  • Serves as a professional representative of OCR. Participates in marketing and promotion of OCR.
  • Other duties as assigned.
