About The Position

Under regular direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, assists with the planning, and implementation of diversified athletic programs utilizing a strong knowledge of sports, including but not limited to rules, equipment, and program execution. Provides a safe environment for all participants recognizing safety concerns as they may arise. Maintains current knowledge of various league-scheduling practices, and implements different methods/approaches, as they are appropriate to the programmatic environment. Performs administrative duties such as assisting with registration of athletic programs and collecting program fees and receipt payments. Assists with promoting athletic programs and services to local community agencies and resident groups. Assists with the preparation of social media content, flyers, website content and may perform other public relations work relating to City athletic programs. Works varying, flexible hours to include evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation, sports management, or a related field.
  • Over two (2) years of experience in sports management, coaching or recreation program planning, or a related field.
  • Must have or obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification/training within six (6) months of hire.
  • Valid South Carolina Class D Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, Coordinate, and Evaluate Assigned Athletic Programs: In coordination with the Athletic Program Manager, establish program goals and objectives and implement diversified athletic programs including but not limited to youth camps, clinics, leagues, instructional programs, and special events. Make recommendations on athletic program improvements and delivery of athletic services. Select and reserve program locations. Assist with the scheduling of assigned facilities and facility users. Coordinate registration dates and procedures for programs and participants as well as disseminate registration information to participants and the public. Determine league structure and/or placement of participating teams into appropriate divisions. Create league schedules and maintain online league standings. Coordinate game schedules, officials, rainouts, and playoff schedules. Communicate with appropriate Parks and Grounds personnel regarding field scheduling, field conditions, makeup games and cancellations (when needed). Assist with the recruitment and hiring of temporary staff, training, and scheduling of field supervisors, volunteers, and coaches for athletic programs. Monitor the work of volunteers and temporary staff to verify work quality and the timely accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities. Track and process temporary staff timesheets. Monitor program operations and verify scheduled events operate smoothly and professionally. Follow and enforce safety rules and regulations to enhance public safety. Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries. Administer contracts and service agreements with external partners, user groups, vendors, etc., according to established ordinances and policies. Act as a liaison between contracted groups. Open and close facilities. Organize and conduct captain’s meetings.
  • Perform Administrative Duties: Assist with the registration of athletic programs. Maintain appropriate program registration records to include rosters and tally program attendance for reports. Perform post program evaluations. Assist with inputting program information into the recreation reservation system. Answer questions and provide program information to participants and the public. Respond to complaints and requests for information within the scope of authority. Maintain field conditions and weather hotline information for participants. Research, review, and make recommendations regarding class fees and charges. Collect program fees and receipt payments. Prepare, plan for storage of, and issue athletic equipment. Maintain inventory of athletic equipment.
  • Support Promotion of Athletic Programs: Assist with promoting athletic programs and services to local community agencies and resident groups. Maintain relations with schools, recreation departments, other athletic organizations, and community organizations that facilitate the implementation of the department’s programs. Plan, organize, and promote special events involving athletic competition. Assist with the preparation of social media content, flyers, website content and may perform other public relations work relating to City athletic programs. Prepare informational packets for distribution prior to start of the season.
