About The Position

The athletic performance coach is responsible for the development and management of strength and conditioning programs for both male and female student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program. The coach is also responsible for coordinating and managing all athletic performance fundraising activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or related field
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) though the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ working as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Knowledge in all facets of strength and conditioning
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent supervisory skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership and creativity skills
  • Ability and desire to take initiative

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in exercise science, kinesiology, or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, implements, and evaluates evidence- and scientific-based strength and conditioning programs for athletic teams
  • Researches and teaches resistance training as well as strength, speed, and agility techniques
  • Educates athletes on proper nutrition and recovery
  • Maintains and shares knowledge of typical injuries and their prevention
  • Complies with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) requirements, policies, and procedures
  • Plans, supervises, and coordinates all fundraising activities and events
  • Maintains performance evaluation records and promptly communicates results with coaching staff
  • Assists with supervision of Fitness Center and addresses issues to minimize risk and maintain safe working environment
  • Expands professional competence/knowledge base through professional development
  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity, and teamwork
  • Provides guidance, support, and quarterly evaluations for interns and volunteers
  • Fully understands and complies with department’s core values and mission statement
  • Communicates frequently with supervisor regarding health/physical development of the student-athlete
  • Promptly reports and responds to inquiries and assignments
  • Develops a seamless line of communication with the team’s certified athletic trainer to develop effective return-to-play protocols
  • Provides input on training theories and methodology
  • Shares fundraising/event updates at departmental meetings; collaborates with personnel to promote said events to the University and surrounding community
  • Gives at least one continuing education presentation annually
  • Job may require other duties as assigned.
