About The Position

Athletic Officials provide officiating services for hockey competitions and help create a fun, competitive, and safe environment. The role involves enforcing sports policies and playing rules, responding to emergencies, completing reports and required training, identifying and addressing facility safety hazards, and communicating with coaches, participants, parents or guardians, and district staff. Schedules vary by program and may include evening and weekend games. Officials are paid per game; rates vary by game type and licensing status.

Requirements

• At least 14 years old.
• Interest in hockey.
• Knowledge of the playing rules and regulations of the assigned sport and related safety guidelines.
• Ability to apply and enforce the playing rules of the specific sport.
• Ability to exercise initiative and independent decision-making, and demonstrate leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to interact with a variety of patrons and participants and maintain positive, respectful, cooperative relationships.
• Ability to work indoors or outdoors, potentially in extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to use hand signals frequently; walk, run, or jog; bend; lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted; push, pull, and kneel.

Responsibilities

• Enforce and implement BPRD sports policies and playing rules to maintain control, fairness, and player safety.
• Handle emergency situations as needed.
• Complete required reports and paperwork.
• Identify facility safety hazards and address them promptly, reporting hazards to a supervisor when necessary.
• Communicate regularly with coaches, participants, parents or guardians, and district staff.
• Attend officials training clinics.
• Complete annual concussion training.
• Complete mandatory reporting training.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
