About The Position

Responsible for performing skilled manual and technical work involved in the maintenance and operation of public athletic grounds and facilities. This includes athletic field preparation, assisting with work planning by scheduling, organizing, and securing materials and equipment for assigned tasks. The role also involves interaction with the public, athletic directors, coaches, players, and event organizers.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years of experience in athletic field maintenance.
Satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.
Knowledge of park maintenance regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of safety practices applicable to operating handheld equipment for park maintenance.
Ability to operate various office equipment such as a computer, fax, and phone.
Ability to express oneself orally and in writing.
Ability to exercise tact and courtesy when dealing with customers.
Ability to perform mathematical operations.
Ability to reference data such as policy manuals and regulations.
Ability to perform the highest level of customer service.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Ability to operate equipment such as pruners, rototillers, blowers, weed-whackers, riding mowers, lawn sweeper, utility vehicle, skid loader, small excavator, aerator, and other equipment.

Responsibilities

Natural grass athletic field maintenance and management for 5 baseball fields, 2 softball fields, 3 football fields, 6 soccer fields, multiple practice fields, and 2 adult softball fields.
Performing cultural practices in the maintenance of athletic fields, including aerification, over seeding, edging, infield grooming, topdressing, and irrigation operation and maintenance.
Operating a variety of tractors and specialized attachments for turf care, mowing, irrigation, horticulture, and preparation of ballfields.
Operating power and hand mowers, line trimmers, blowers, edging equipment, ballfield groomers, and automotive equipment to maintain athletic fields and surrounding areas.
Implementing regularly scheduled maintenance activities on athletic fields, such as mowing, seeding, aeration, debris removal, infield grooming, and edging.
Participating in planning and implementing field renovations, combination planning, and field design(s).
Operating manual and automatic irrigation systems, and assisting in the maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems.
Determining field conditions for playability in the event of inclement weather.
Inspecting grounds, athletic facilities, and buildings daily for safety concerns and maintenance requirements.
Completing damage reports and notifying supervisors of necessary repairs.
Assisting with minor repairs to buildings, structures, and equipment using basic building trade skills.
Cleaning buildings, including restrooms, structures, and all surface areas daily.
Replenishing restroom supplies as needed.
