About The Position

The Athletic Communications Assistant is a student position in High Point University’s Athletics Staff, offering hands-on experience in Division I college athletics and sports media. The role provides practical experience with social media, writing, content creation, media relations, and sports information. Students may create videos and graphics, learn Adobe Creative Suite, write for HighPointPanthers.com, interview student-athletes and coaches, input and call statistics at home athletic events, and update website content. Work is primarily performed at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center, Steele Center, Millis Center, Witcher Center, and Willard Stadium. Hours vary according to job requirements, with student employees limited to 20 hours per week. The position is eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

Requirements

• Be willing to work a variety of jobs.

• Be prepared to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
• Be willing to learn new skills.

Nice To Haves

• Minimum 2.3 overall GPA.
• Strong writing and/or design skills.
• Understanding of social media platforms.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day social media activity for SkullSparks accounts.
• Write content for HighPointPanthers.com and use feedback to improve writing.
• Create content for a Division I athletic department, including videos and graphics.
• Interview student-athletes and coaches for stories and website content.
• Learn and assist with media relations.
• Input and call statistics at HPU home athletic events.
• Update website content.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
