About The Position

This is a State Compensatory Education funded position, providing compensatory, intensive, and/or accelerated instruction to students identified as at-risk. The role involves assisting students and families to remove barriers in school readiness, success, and attendance. The coordinator will oversee efforts to work with at-risk students who are in danger of dropping out of school, providing them with appropriate learning activities and academic experiences to foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, and to develop competencies and skills for successful societal functioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate, preferred
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to work with students, staff, and parents
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Familiarity with issues related to students at-risk of dropping out of school
  • Awareness and ability to access community agencies and organizations
  • Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to speak Spanish, preferred
  • Experience working with at-risk students in education, social work, counseling or criminal justice

Responsibilities

  • Assist principals and counselors in identifying at-risk students, initiating intervention plans, and collaborating with parents.
  • Conduct home visits to ensure assignment completion and compile information for intervention plan development, aiming to improve attendance and create a positive learning experience.
  • Monitor daily absence reports to maintain average daily attendance, communicate with students, parents, and the district truancy administrator, and submit required reports.
  • Monitor grades of at-risk students, coordinate with counseling staff, and supervise credit recovery programs.
  • Evaluate transcripts of students with high school credit deficiencies and assist in developing graduation plans.
  • Support administrative and counseling staff with discipline management and counseling.
  • Provide motivational support for student goal achievement by encouraging extracurricular participation, developing a mentor program, and recruiting volunteers.
  • Assist in developing parent involvement activities, connecting families with community services, and providing support with clothing, supplies, and personal items.
  • Conduct classroom visits to assess attendance, behavior, and academics.
  • Act as an advocate and liaison between the student, school, and home.
  • Serve as the campus contact for state compensatory education, if designated.
  • Assist with pre-enrollment, extracurricular, and other assigned activities.
  • Participate in professional development to enhance job-related skills and demonstrate initiative for professional improvement.
  • Stay informed about and comply with all policies and regulations at the state, district, and school levels.
  • Maintain familiarity with district initiatives to better serve student needs.
  • Establish and maintain open communication and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
  • Serve as a liaison for parents and the school.
  • Present a positive role model that supports the district's mission and demonstrates professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
