About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the ASU/PACU Surgery department. The role involves providing direct patient care, including baths, vital signs, specimen collection, medication administration, and patient education. The RN is responsible for developing and revising nursing care plans, documenting patient information, and ensuring patient safety and infection control. The position also includes participating in quality improvement activities, orienting new staff, and collaborating with the healthcare team. The nurse must be competent in caring for patients across various age groups depending on the department (Med/Surg/Skilled/ICU, OB, OR, ED). Competence is assessed through orientation, testing, and ongoing observation of clinical practice.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a State Board approved or accredited school of nursing.
  • Must possess current clinical experience or be a new nursing graduate.
  • Must possess evidence of current Kansas license or valid temporary permit to practice (if coming from out of state).
  • A minimum training level of BLS is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer minimum of one years experience in pertinent clinical specialty.
  • Acquire and maintain ACLS training for ED and ICU
  • Acquire and maintain Neonatal resuscitation training for OB.

Responsibilities

  • Give patient baths, oral care and hair care.
  • Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressures).
  • Collect I & O information.
  • Ambulate patients.
  • Assist with activities in patient mobility and positioning.
  • Collection of specimens.
  • Obtain blood glucose readings.
  • Initiate CPR.
  • Communicate with patient and/or family. Provide information to the patient and/or family to educate them on disease process, hospital stay, and/or treatments.
  • Communicate with patient and/or family and meet patient needs for courtesy, information, physical care, emotional care, safety, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Transport patients by pushing pulling, lifting, in a wheelchair, bed, cart or Geri chair.
  • Reposition patients with or without mechanical devices, by lifting, pulling and pushing.
  • Clearly and concisely report significant patient status changes to the physician.
  • Collection of patient care information.
  • Development and revision of nursing care plan.
  • Administer medications including narcotics according to SBAMH policies and procedures.
  • Document patient information concisely and legibly according to hospital and department policy.
  • Dressing changes.
  • Administer treatments.
  • Clearly and concisely report significant patient status changes to physician and appropriate coworkers.
  • Responsible and accountable for using work time appropriately by organizing and prioritizing work to complete daily assignment.
  • Follow patient specific plan of care.
  • Administer IVs and IV medications.
  • Start IVs.
  • Assess the patient.
  • Follow all infection control procedures and policies (including use of universal and standard precautions).
  • Provide for patient safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement assurance, assessment and improvement activities.
  • Notify receiving nursing area of patients condition and needs prior to transfer.
  • Participates in the orientation and teaching of newly employed nursing personnel.
  • Participates in nursing projects and or revision and review of policies and procedures.
  • Positive and effective interaction with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
