About The Position

The Delaware Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, seeks a Deputy Attorney General to join our phenomenal team in the newly constituted Conviction Integrity Unity and serve as Assistant Unit Head with a focus on postconviction relief petitions, including pardons, commutations, compassionate release, and expungements. The Deputy Attorneys General in this Unit are responsible for drafting motions and briefs, conducting research, and representing the State in Court hearings. This is a Unit with a high volume of cases. This position is Internal/In-House only. Applicants may only apply if they are current employees of the Delaware Department of Justice.

Requirements

Membership in Delaware Bar required.
Experience prosecuting criminal cases.
Strong knowledge of criminal law and procedure.
Ability to evaluate legal issues with accurate and effective legal research.
Ability to learn and apply the relevant laws and court rules.
Ability to develop a good working relationship with other Deputy Attorneys General, support staff and Court personnel.

Nice To Haves

Experience with pardons, commutations and expungements is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Manage a demanding caseload of post-conviction petition responses.
Coordinate with fellow deputy attorneys general for input.
Supervise support staff working on pardons, commutations, compassionate release, and expungements.
Cross-train with the Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust on claims of wrongful conviction.
Carry a caseload.
Assist the Unit Head in directing and managing other administrative and support operations within the Unit.
Coordinate assignments and training for all unit members.
Perform other managerial tasks as needed.
