About The Position

The Assistant Manager will be responsible for managing all labor and production people at the Biehle and McBride locations. This role involves managing the logistics and grading of fescue buying operations, assisting sales and nutrition managers with employee support, and developing knowledge in grain merchandising. The position also includes coordinating feed milling, grain handling, small package production, and seed processing operations, with a focus on improving product quality. A key responsibility is overseeing the Division Safety Program and ensuring employee access to safety training. The Assistant Manager will directly supervise Biehle employees (excluding maintenance staff) and promote sales efforts in various agricultural areas. This role is designed with the expectation of growth into the General Manager position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all labor and production people at the Biehle and McBride locations.
  • Manage the logistics and grading piece of fescue buying operations, both locally and remote.
  • Assist Sales and Nutrition Manager(s) with employee support in their sales, delivery, and quality control efforts.
  • Develop a knowledge base in grain merchandising and help coordinate the implementation and daily activities of a customer contact program.
  • Coordinate and manage the activities of feed milling, grain handling, small package production, and seed processing.
  • Improve pellet quality, overall product quality, and grain quality.
  • Be responsible for the Division Safety Program and facilitate communication with Corporate Safety and Loss Prevention Staff.
  • Conduct necessary safety meetings and ensure all Ag Division Employees have access to safety videos and training information.
  • Continue to develop operational excellence in efficiency and quality control throughout the Division.
  • Directly supervise the activities of all Biehle employees with the exception of the Maintenance staff.
  • Promote sales efforts in Agronomy, Grain Merchandising, Grass Seed, Animal Feeds, Veterinary Supplies, and Retail Store Support.
  • Prepare overall strategic plans for growth of the Agricultural Division in cooperation with the President and Executive Vice-President.
  • Assist in the harvest workload and be directly responsible for the quality and condition of all grains, grass seeds, products, and feed ingredients.
  • Be visible during harvest times and manage the harvest flow.
  • Motivate, develop, and retain good staff members.
  • Delegate tasks effectively.
  • Improve feed production process by eliminating or drastically reducing customer complaints over pellet quality and feed delivery issues.
  • Lower Feed Mill utilities costs by 25% per ton in the next two years.
  • Continue to achieve quality control recognition at the State and Federal Level.
  • Reduce Stop Sales in both Feed and Seed by 50% in the next two years.
  • Expand Wholesale, Small Bag (Jug) Program and Casual Feed Program by 25% in the next year.
  • Reduce Work Comp claims by 50% next year and each year following, with a goal of zero claims.
