This position is responsible for directing the activities of an investigative field office to improve capabilities and operational procedures. Work is performed under the general supervision of the district manager through conferences and review of accomplishments concerning the achievement of the unit and division goals and objectives. The incumbent will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. The role involves directing, managing, and monitoring the activities of staff in assigned regional offices, including investigators and regulatory personnel. Delegation of assignment, review, and quality control of cases, evidence control, and other related work is expected. Regular meetings with assigned personnel are required to assess progress, provide guidance, and solve problems. The position serves as a team leader on special multi-jurisdictional projects and ensures regular training is conducted in accordance with policy and procedure. The role provides guidance to Investigation Supervisors and collaborates on operational procedures, ensuring timely and objective performance reviews and the implementation of performance improvement plans when necessary. Support and advice are provided to superiors, and orders and policy are enforced. Reports of recommendations are prepared, and analysis of statements of functions for operating personnel is conducted. The position ensures the office is staffed with high-quality personnel through recruiting, interviewing, and hiring in accordance with departmental policies. Laws, rules, and regulations are interpreted as they apply to state statutes, and subordinates are advised on policy and procedural changes. The role is responsible for overseeing the region office budget through strategic planning and ensuring the office is adequately supplied and furnished with necessary equipment, property, and forms, with all property maintained according to policy and procedure. Public inquiries are answered, referrals are made, public speaking engagements are conducted, professional contacts are made, and the goals and mission of the Department are promoted, including participation in Sterling-related activities and events. Managers will be trained in Six Sigma and participate in process management, strategic planning, and process improvements. Press inquiries are referred to the Public Information Office. Coordination with law enforcement officials on unlicensed activity matters at the state, local, or federal level is required, and testimony may be provided at hearings and trials.
