About The Position

The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising (Oakland campus) is part of a leadership team that is responsible for supporting the development, implementation and assessment of student advising services on the Northeastern University Oakland campus. The Assistant Director works in partnership with the Director of Global Undergraduate Academic Advising in hiring, supervising and training staff; supports implementation of advising-related technology; provides academic advisement to students; coordinates special advising related projects to support student retention and university goals, and best practices in advising. It is critical that the Assistant Director works to foster a welcoming, nurturing, and belonging environment for all students.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or other relevant fields.
  • 2-3 years relevant advising experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of educational requirements and advising processes.
  • Demonstrated technology proficiency with various software applications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Must submit a cover letter and resume to be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a caseload of students to provide overall guidance on academic goals.
  • Interpret and explain academic policies and procedures to students.
  • Monitor students’ academic progress and performance to ensure timely degree completion.
  • Make referrals to faculty, staff, and support offices.
  • Provide day-to-day management of the Oakland Advising team.
  • Hire, supervise, mentor, and train Academic Advisors.
  • Maintain student records and update advising platforms.
  • Assist with orientation.
  • Represent Oakland campus advising on relevant committees.
  • Help the advising team troubleshoot issues relating to students and parents.
  • Collaborate with the Director to increase student support quality and identify/develop retention strategies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with campus and university departments.
  • Implement strategic advising plans based on assessment and evaluation of data.
  • Teach introductory course(s).
  • Collaborate with team members to develop syllabi and course content.
  • Grade student material, keep attendance records, and issue final grades.
