About The Position

The Assistant Softball Coach will assist the head coach in coordinating all phases of a competitive NJCAA Division Ill Softball program. This includes coaching, recruiting, training, budget management, travel management, scheduling, rules and eligibility compliance, administrative duties, academic monitoring, and program fundraising.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Thorough knowledge of all athletics policies approved by the NJCAA, OCCAC and Owens Community College.
  • Understand FERPA and the proper administrative line of command and refer all student and parent requests or grievances through proper channels.
  • Knowledge and background in softball.
  • Accountable for personal actions on and off campus properties.
  • Never criticize, admonish, or argue with other coaching staff or any staff member within ears or eyes of players, parents, or fans.

Nice To Haves

  • High School/Club or equivalent coaching experience preferred.
  • Collegiate coaching experience or collegiate playing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach in coordinating all phases of a competitive NJCAA Division Ill Softball program.
  • Coach, recruit, train, manage budgets, manage travel, schedule, ensure rules and eligibility compliance, perform administrative duties, monitor academics, and fundraise for the program.
  • Teach sports techniques, playing rules, strategies, and playing tactics.
  • Condition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength, and agility.
  • Conduct practices and contests safely, supervising locker rooms and buses.
  • Instruct team members about rules and changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport.
  • Help in planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs.
  • Work closely with the Athletic Director, notifying him/her of potential problems/awards, etc.
  • Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the collegiate sports program.
  • Arrive early enough before practices, contests, and meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterward to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
  • Strive to improve skills by attending clinics.
