About The Position

Plymouth State University invites applications for the position of Assistant Softball Coach. Reporting to the Head Softball Coach, the Assistant Coach will assist in all aspects of the NCAA Division III softball program. This position supports the recruitment, development, and success of student-athletes while promoting academic achievement, sportsmanship, and personal growth in accordance with the mission of Plymouth State University and the philosophy of NCAA Division III athletics. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive, positive, and competitive team culture while contributing to the overall success of the Athletics Department.

Requirements

  • Collegiate playing experience and/or collegiate coaching experience in softball.
  • Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, player development, and recruiting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete success, academic achievement, and NCAA Division III values.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel extensively.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Nice To Haves

  • Previous collegiate coaching or graduate assistant experience.
  • Experience recruiting prospective student-athletes.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III compliance rules and regulations.
  • Experience coordinating camps, clinics, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Master's degree or progress toward a graduate degree.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Coach in all phases of the softball program, including practice planning, game preparation, and competition.
  • Coach and develop student-athletes through individual instruction and team training sessions.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who demonstrate academic and athletic potential.
  • Assist with practice organization, skill development, scouting, and game strategy.
  • Support strength and conditioning initiatives and monitor student-athlete progress throughout the year.
  • Travel with the team to away contests and recruiting events as required.
  • Assist with team operations, including equipment management, travel logistics, scheduling, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic performance and promote personal development and leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with all NCAA Division III, conference, and university rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with alumni relations, fundraising initiatives, community engagement, and youth camps and clinics.
  • Represent Plymouth State University and the Athletics Department in a professional and positive manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Softball Coach or Director of Athletics.
