About The Position

Under the direction of the head softball coach, the assistant will coach student-athletes, including leading all team practices and scheduled games/competitions; developing game preparation and strategy; conditioning and training student-athletes in order to develop skill, character, and teamwork in competitive NCAA Division II softball. Assist the head coach in the management of the softball program by planning and coordinating all practices, workouts, and competitions; ensure all University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations are followed, including student-athlete eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, scheduling, and academic progress; manage the program’s operating budget through procurement requests and travel reimbursements; and supervise volunteer or part-time assistant coaches. Recruit highly qualified prospective student-athletes in coordination with the strategic vision of the head coach. Monitor player academics, promote student welfare and encourage academic excellence. Help organize and conduct team camps; aid in the development of fund-raising opportunities; serve on committees that promote the success of the program and athletics; establish and maintain community contacts and enhance the success of the program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution
  • At least 2 years of experience at the collegiate level in softball as a student-athlete or coaching experience at the high school or higher level
  • Experience in a position that required skills in cooperation, organization, communication and problem solving
