About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office in Augusta has an opening for an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) within the Professional and Financial Regulation Division of the Office. The primary responsibilities of the AAG will be to provide legal counsel to various professional licensing boards and programs within and affiliated with the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation and/or the Department of Public Safety. This work involves investigating and prosecuting disciplinary complaints against licensed professionals, providing legal analysis and opinions on regulatory matters, performing agency rule review, defending agency decisions on appeal to the Superior Court, and enforcing agency orders in court.

Requirements

  • Member of the Maine Bar in good standing
  • An eye for legal detail
  • Interest in complex state regulation
  • Strong legal advocacy and writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a team

  • One to three years of relevant legal practice
  • Demonstrated proficiency in administrative law and litigation

Responsibilities
