Institutional Equity Division – Associate, Morgan Stanley Electronic Trading Night Coverage (New York)
About The Position
Morgan Stanley is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate to join the Morgan Stanley Electronic Trading (MSET) Night Coverage team. The role provides overnight trading coverage, operating Sunday through Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. ET. The Associate oversees execution, monitors risk and performance, and makes real-time decisions to support high-quality client outcomes while maintaining a strong risk and control environment. MSET provides clients with access to global markets, electronic execution, and trading technology solutions. The role works alongside professionals across Trading, Sales, Technology, Quantitative Research, and Product Management, with exposure to U.S. equities, futures, options, market structure, electronic execution, and risk management. It offers opportunities for professional development and career growth within Morgan Stanley’s electronic trading business.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience on an execution desk, electronic trading desk, sales trading desk, or in a related role.
- Ability and willingness to work overnight trading coverage aligned with Asia market hours rather than a traditional U.S. workday.
- Strong understanding of electronic trading and market structure, with familiarity with futures and options markets.
- Analytical mindset, exceptional attention to detail, strong risk awareness, sound judgment, and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong trading judgment and a solid analytical foundation.
- Comfort working independently; disciplined, self-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to maintain focus and sound judgment throughout the trading session.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and oversee the execution of client orders across U.S. equities, futures, and options while actively managing trading, market, and operational risk.
- Continuously monitor market conditions, liquidity, and platform performance, and exercise judgment when issues require escalation or intervention.
- Analyze execution quality and trading performance, identify opportunities for process improvement, and provide clear handoff summaries to the day trading team.
