About The Position

Variety is searching for a Los Angeles-based Associate Web Editor, Nights and Weekend who can write and edit stories very quickly on extremely tight deadlines. This position would write and edit on all topics that Variety covers, and be able to stop quickly in order to pick up any breaking urgent news. They must be able to self-publish clean copy and be familiar with basic copy editing. This job is all about speed, precision and great news instincts. The job also includes assisting in the maintenance of the website, assembling newsletters, artwork and social media posts. The ideal candidate must be a highly-motivated self-starter, possess excellent writing and editing skills, and not be afraid to reach out to studios and publicists for comments on reports. This person must also be energetic and have a few years of experience covering news in an assertive manner. The ideal candidate will have one to four years of experience covering the media industry.

Requirements

• Experience writing and editing short-form pieces on a tight deadline
• Understanding of the entertainment media landscape
• Experience using WordPress or a CMS equivalent, as well as SocialFlow and social media platforms.
• A few years of experience covering news in an assertive manner.
• One to four years of experience covering the media industry.
• Familiarity with basic copy editing.
• Highly-motivated self-starter.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Not afraid to reach out to studios and publicists for comments on reports.
• Energetic.

• SEO knowledge a plus
• Background in entertainment media a plus.
