About The Position

The Associate VP, Duke Health Affiliations & Networks oversees the execution of the Duke Health Affiliations & Networks Strategic plan, focusing on growth strategies for expanding Duke Health’s presence in local, regional, and national markets. This role leads efforts to establish and operationalize affiliated programs with healthcare organizations, fostering opportunities for clinical collaboration in patient care, research, and education. This includes managing specialty/subspecialty affiliations and the Duke LifePoint joint venture.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field, healthcare concentration strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in hospital operations.
  • At least three years of experience at the administrative leadership level.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a matrixed organization with high collaboration, sound judgment, and significant operational experience.
  • Strong leadership, management, analytical, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of physician practice management, clinical operations, research practice, and healthcare payment systems, with sound financial management.
  • Motivation and initiative in pursuing professional growth.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to assess situations and implement improvement or corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, monitor, and oversee the execution of Network strategy, identifying opportunities to expand affiliations and support educational and research activities in affiliated sites.
  • Ensure alignment with Duke Health Integrated Practice (DHIP) leadership to support the deployment, oversight, and performance of Duke physicians and APPs at affiliated sites.
  • Oversee DHAN’s centralized Business Operations shared services team, ensuring efficient delivery of finance, HR coordination, fleet, IT, and back-office support.
  • Support the VP of DHAN in representing Duke Health’s interests in the Duke LifePoint joint venture.
  • Manage the daily operations of the Division of Acute Care Affiliations and Centralized Business Operations, ensuring services to affiliate sites are consistent with contractual agreements.
  • Oversee the marketing and review process for affiliate sites with contractual approval for Use of Duke Brand.
  • Oversee DHAN Centralized Business Operations responsible for billing and accounts receivable for operational and licensing fees.
  • Manage personnel and HR-related issues, serving as a liaison with assigned HR Business Partner.
  • Form and maintain relationships with administrators, medical staff leadership, and trustees in affiliate organizations.
  • Directly supervise leaders of Specialty/Subspecialty Affiliations Networks/teams, Provider Relations, and Centralized Business Operations.
  • Ensure a comprehensive education agenda is included in all DHAN affiliated programs and clinical research as appropriate.
  • Ensure specialty affiliations generate measurable educational, research, and quality outcomes.
  • Monitor the performance of network activities within the division and issue timely reports to Duke Health senior leaders and affiliated sites.
  • Maintain open communication with leaders of various Duke programs and departments, including Duke University School of Medicine, Duke Health Acute Care and Ambulatory facilities, DHIP, Health System Finance Dept, DUH Service Lines, Managed Care Contracting, Strategy & Planning, Marketing & Communications, Development Office, Risk Management, Legal Services, Continuing Medical and Graduate Medical Education, and Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO).
  • Serve as a role model and resource for professional colleagues, participating in leadership activities such as committees, professional organizations, publishing, teaching, and research.
