Requirements

  • At least seven years of leadership experience in construction and facilities management with at least three years of executive-level experience in a comprehensive university or other large and complex organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Valid CA driver’s license is required.
  • Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.
  • Must reside in the State of California upon date of hire.
  • Must file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis.
  • Must complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

  • MPA, MBA, Master's in Architecture, Engineering or other related graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience working within collective bargaining and shared governance environments is highly desirable.
  • Ability to balance the needs of faculty, staff, and students while maintaining an architecturally and aesthetically consistent campus environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic vision, executive leadership, and operational oversight for the planning, construction, maintenance, safety, and service delivery of the campus facilities and environment.
  • Leads a complex organization responsible for a significant operating budget, major capital programs, and a large workforce.
  • Advises senior leadership, represents the University with the CSU and state agencies, ensures compliance with applicable requirements, and advances safe, sustainable, fiscally responsible, and service-oriented facilities operations.
  • Provides leadership in planning and ensuring the integrity and safety of the University’s facilities.
  • Establishes and directs the long-range strategic goals and objectives of the department.
  • Ensures that annual operational objectives are established and achieved in the following functional areas: Physical Planning, Design and Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Facilities Management.
  • Represents the campus and has close interaction with individuals and groups at the Chancellor’s Office, State Department of Finance, Legislative Analyst’s Office, other State agencies, the City of Long Beach, and the community who are involved in the development, improvement or use of campus facilities.
  • Oversees an approximate $45 million operating budget (state and self-supporting), capital program ranging from $150 million to $500 million, and the management of approximately 300 employees.
  • Assures that maintenance and project spending relate to the University's financial, budget and planning process.
  • Assures the Service Response Program involves stakeholders throughout all Department planning and prioritization processes and that services and spending are balance across the diversity of institutional needs.
  • Assures that Campus Environmental Health and Safety Program is reviewed annually and being followed in all Department operations.
