About The Position

The Associate Vice President (AVP), Finance - Grants provides financial oversight and coordination across the Finance team, with a primary focus on managing grants awarded to and administered by United Way of Summit & Medina. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance in reporting and accounting according to relevant grant agreements and the Office of Management and Budget Circular No. A-122. The AVP of Finance - Grants will also ensure appropriate technology and software systems are in place for accurate tracking and reporting of grant activity and budget performance. In collaboration with the CFO and Controller, this role is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the organization’s periodic grant reporting, maintaining adequate internal accounting controls, and providing leadership to support and enhance connections within the finance team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar required.
  • 5 or more years of experience in grant accounting required.
  • 5 years of financial management, including supervision of staff, required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards (FAS).
  • Competent in MS Office products.
  • Respect for differences whether racial, ethnic, sexual orientation, gender, or class.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment testing including background check, drug and alcohol screen.
  • Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours on occasion.
  • After-hours event attendance occasionally.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Valid driver license and proof of insurance with ability to pass annual motor vehicle report check.
  • Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit County area.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment credit history check.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all grants and awards are tracked and kept up to date in a master grant matrix.
  • Maintain original grant contracts, agreements, and award letters in both hard copy and electronic formats.
  • Review grant financial requirements and compliance supplements to ensure accounting and reporting procedures meet applicable standards.
  • Work with the Manager, Finance – Grants to maintain, improve, and adapt grant accounting to meet current and changing needs.
  • Collaborate with Finance Managers and staff to meet grant billing deadlines.
  • Build grant budgets for proposal and reporting purposes, working with the Manager, Finance – Grants and Manager, Grant Development, and program management.
  • Maintain, improve, and adapt analyses to monitor grant financial performance against budget, ensuring funds are allocated and spent appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all grant accounting and reporting for annual financial audits and periodic audits/monitoring visits by grantors.
  • Assume primary responsibility for leading grant audits, coordinating requests and documentation with financial and programmatic staff.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits of internal controls in cash disbursement and compliance related to grant spending.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the Manager, Finance - Grants.
  • Serve as back-up to the Manager, Finance – Grants and the VP, Controller during high workflow periods or when a team member is out.
  • Provide support to the VP, Controller and CFO/COO on special projects.
  • Participate and support assigned engagement calendar events, marketing events, and related preparatory meetings.
