About The Position

Canobie Lake Veterinary Hospital is seeking an Associate Veterinarian with a focus on avian and exotic species. This is a full-time position, working four 10-hour days, Monday through Friday, with no weekends. The hospital is AAHA accredited and was recognized as the 2024 AAHA Practice of the Year. A significant portion of the caseload (50%) involves avian and exotic patients, including birds, reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, pocket pets, and amphibians. The hospital emphasizes a culture of 'Conscious Care®', focusing on compassion for self, team, clients, patients, and community. The role offers a collaborative team environment, mentorship, and access to a specialist network. The hospital is partnered with Alliance Animal Health, but the owner remains actively involved.

Requirements

  • DVM/VMD from an accredited institution.
  • Active New Hampshire veterinary license (or eligibility to obtain).
  • 5+ years of clinical experience, with a meaningful avian and exotic caseload.
  • Comfortable seeing the full spectrum of avian and exotic species: birds, reptiles, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, pocket pets, amphibians.
  • Strong diagnostician who loves the challenge of exotic medicine.
  • Great communicator with devoted exotic pet owners.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented.
  • Passionate about mentorship and growing alongside a team that invests in learning.
  • Open to general companion animal medicine as part of a balanced mixed caseload.
  • DEA license & USDA accreditation preferred, not required.

Nice To Haves

  • ABVP boarded in Avian or Exotic Companion Mammal medicine preferred— or actively working toward it.

Responsibilities

  • Practice veterinary medicine at the top of your license across a rich variety of species.
  • Work alongside a collaborative team including Customer Experience Team (CET), Technicians (TT), and Veterinary Assistants (VA).
  • Have the mentorship of experienced colleagues and the backing of a Medical Director.
  • Utilize advanced equipment for diagnostics and treatment.
  • Perform exams, diagnostics, treatment plans, surgery, and dentals.
  • Engage in general companion animal medicine as part of a balanced mixed caseload.
