About The Position

CareVet of Southern Illinois is seeking an Associate Veterinarian to join our collaborative, multi-doctor team. This is an excellent opportunity to practice thoughtful, high-quality medicine in a supportive environment with an experienced staff and a loyal clientele. This is a clinical role within a respected, team-oriented hospital where support and collaboration are part of the daily workflow. You will have the support of experienced doctors and leadership, allowing you to grow your skills while maintaining autonomy in your practice. CareVet of Southern Illinois has served the Marion community for over 34 years and is recognized as a leading hospital in the region. This is not a high-volume, high-pressure environment — you’ll have the time and support to practice medicine the way you were trained, build relationships with clients, and manage cases thoroughly.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required
• Licensure in the state/s candidate will be working
• Ability to show compassion to both pets and their owners
• Outstanding dexterity in handling animals while performing precise tasks
• Ability to react quickly and make decisions under pressure about the wellbeing of an animal
• Strong fondness and understanding of animals
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of animal behavior
• Ability to use medical technologies during diagnosis, research and surgery of animals

Responsibilities

• Examine animals to assess their health and diagnose problems
• Treat and dress wounds
• Perform surgery on animals
• Test for and vaccinate against diseases
• Operate medical equipment, such as x-ray machines
• Advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments
• Prescribe medication
• Work closely in collaboration with team members to provide high quality care
• Deliver high-quality care across a diverse small animal caseload
• Collaborate with experienced veterinarians and skilled support staff
• Build strong client relationships and clearly communicate treatment plans
• Participate in case discussions and shared medical decision-making
• Explore your interests in surgery, dentistry, or medicine at your own pace
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused culture
