About The Position

Davis Pet Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital offering wellness care, surgery, internal medicine, hospitalization, and dental care. As one of the few AAHA-accredited clinics in the area, the team of veterinarians and support staff adhere to the highest standards of facility and pet care. The hospital in Collinsville, IL is adding another veterinarian to its AAHA-accredited practice. The team currently consists of 5 veterinarians, 4 CVTs, and 3 CVTs in training, who are competent and well utilized for tasks like monitoring anesthesia, catheter placement, radiographs, and blood draws. The team is cohesive, compassionate, and encourages practicing the best medicine, ensuring any new veterinarian will flourish. Doctors of all experience levels are welcome, with mentoring available for new graduates. The busy practice offers a steady and versatile caseload, including routine soft tissue, simple fracture repair, emergency surgery (c-section, pyometra, foreign body), cruciate repairs, splenectomies, and cystotomies. Collinsville, IL, located just outside of St. Louis, is a historical destination known for the Cahokia Mounds, its large Italian population, and various festivals like the International Horseradish festival and Smokin’ on Main barbecue festival, as well as a unique culinary scene and great breweries.

Requirements

  • DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
