About The Position

Burns & Wilcox is seeking an Associate Underwriter with an entrepreneurial spirit, drive for career advancement, and interest in developing relationships in the specialty insurance industry. The role supports an Underwriter’s book of business, with a focus on renewals and new business, and offers opportunities to develop toward full underwriting authority. Burns & Wilcox is the flagship organization of H.W. Kaufman Group and a North American wholesale insurance broker and underwriting manager serving retail insurance brokers and agents.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 3 years of personal underwriting support or industry experience.
• Strong sales and marketing skills.
• Proven organization skills and strong attention to detail.
• Interest in continued education and professional development to obtain full underwriting authority.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and supervise a portion of an Underwriter’s book of business, focused on renewals and new business.
• Evaluate, classify, and rate each risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing, and prepare quotes.
• Assist Underwriters in developing and executing marketing plans to drive new and renewal business, including in-person agency visits, telemarketing, and distributing marketing materials.
• Mentor and train Associate Underwriters as needed.
• Travel when necessary to foster strong client relationships.
