About The Position

The Associate Underwriter’s primary responsibility is to manage an existing book of renewable business through a demonstration of strong skills in coverage fundamentals, terms and conditions, risk assessment, financial proficiency, actuarial fundamentals, marketing and communications, and systems and programs. The role involves selecting and underwriting individual risks within established business plans and assigned authority, utilizing corporate pricing and reinsurance techniques to achieve desired results. The Associate Underwriter will manage a renewable book of business, offering strategic underwriting guidance including rate, terms, and deductibles, and monitor the results of the assigned book, recommending corrective actions as necessary to ensure retention of desirable accounts. This position also requires providing quality and timely input on assigned projects to meet the Company’s needs in a changing market and support profitable growth. Duties may include participating in audits and/or underwriting meetings, and identifying cross-sell opportunities within other Chubb divisions by promoting their products and services. Travel is less than 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 3 years of current underwriting/insurance experience
  • Concentration in Inland Marine products including Builder’s Risk preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective time and desk management, balancing a large book of renewal business
  • Able to work collaboratively and prioritize in a matrix environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • PC and Microsoft Office Products proficient, Excel skills in particular

  • Industry designations – CPCU or AIMIM preferred

Responsibilities
