About The Position

The Associate Underwriter II supports Farm Family agents, policyholders, and underwriters by applying risk-based analysis to underwrite and service business at a policy and account level. Associate Underwriters are expected to underwrite and, if required, process policies in a timely and accurate manner; they are held to established efficiency and quality standards. Advanced duties are assigned based upon state-specific experience in the role. This may include but is not limited to large agency assignments with challenging state specific requirements or specialized assignments that require above average knowledge. Have increased level of authority to make decisions to accept and/or reject. Employees in this role are required to accurately record all hours worked and submit timesheets in accordance with company policy. Overtime may be assigned as business needs dictate, and employees are expected to work overtime when required. This is a 100% in-office position. Candidates must be able to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours.

Requirements

  • Close attention to detail
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, in English, both written and verbal
  • Minimum of one year of work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Makes independent decisions regarding rating of policies/accounts and discount eligibility by using applicable rating manuals and written underwriting processes.
  • Makes decisive risk selections decisions within authority limits to approve, refer, or reject on all transactions.
  • Responds to all correspondence including email and telephone inquiries from agents and third parties in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and address submission requirement issues with agents to mitigate policy cancellations and/or non-renewals.
  • Corresponds with various state agencies to update insurance records for American National clients.
  • Presents recommendations for improvements to systems and processes in order to improve efficiency and to streamline the handling of policies/accounts.
  • Researches state specific policies and guidelines in order to address agent inquiries.
