About The Position

The primary focus of this position is to work in one or more of the areas of surface, coating or finish as assigned. Duties of this position are usually repetitive, requiring limited analysis and use of individual judgment. Specific duties for this position include beveling, mounting the lenses, edging, blocking lenses, tinting, and inspecting. Supervision ranges from close to general. All duties and procedures are to be performed according to the established standard and in compliance with all company and governing body policies. It is required that this position maintain regular, prompt attendance and availability for overtime as needed. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Basic ability to add and subtract.
  • Understand decimal numerical sequencing.

Responsibilities

  • Prep and monitor trays for edging.
  • Utilize the bevel wheel to remove the sharp edges of the lens.
  • Mount lens in standard frames.
  • Drill and mount lenses into specialty frames.
  • Smooth sharp edges and gloss edges by using tools and machinery provided.
  • Prepare an uncut lens for the edging process by removing lens from envelope, wiping clean of markings, and putting on automatic machines.
  • Sort jobs from wrap, drills, and regular.
  • Accurately tint all lenses going through the tinting department.
  • Inspect lenses and frames to ensure that they are optically and cosmetically accurate.
  • Open and tray lens blanks, taping and blocking to accommodate automation.
  • Monitor automated surfacing equipment to keep equipment loaded and clear errors.
  • Load and unload lenses in polish machines.
  • Remove blocking system.
  • Wash and inspect lenses for cosmetic defects.
  • Scan and sort jobs by coating for scratch and anti-reflective coating treatments.
  • Clean lenses and place in holders for wash and scratch coat machines.
  • Inspect lenses for cosmetic defects after scratch coat application.
  • Perform tests on various scratch coating baths to verify all are within specification.
  • Load lenses into holders for anti-reflective coating – monitor machines.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform required tasks using correct techniques.
  • May transport work to next station.
  • Work in a role with measurable standards – maintaining production goals.
