This is a part-time casual position that will work 15-20 hours per week, with potential for more during peak seasons or as production demands. The role focuses on working in one or more assigned areas such as surface, coating, or finishing, performing repetitive duties. Specific tasks vary based on the assigned department, with supervision ranging from close to general.   • Must have strong fine motor skills and dexterity to coordinate use of hands and fingers to grasp, feel objects, transfer small items from one hand to another, fine manipulation, and bilateral reach with arms.
  • Use of close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Prep and monitor trays for edging.
  • Utilize the bevel wheel to remove sharp edges.
  • Mount lenses in standard frames; drill and mount lenses into specialty frames.
  • Smooth sharp edges and gloss edges using provided tools and machinery.
  • Prepare an uncut lens for the edging process.
  • Accurately tint all lenses going through the tinting department.
  • Inspect lenses and frames to ensure they are optically and cosmetically accurate.
  • Block tray lens blanks, tape and block to accommodate automation.
  • Monitor surfacing equipment, keeping it loaded and clearing errors.
  • Operate and maintain polishing equipment.
  • Remove blocking system, wash, and inspect lenses for cosmetic defects.
  • Scan and sort jobs for scratch and anti-reflective coating treatments.
  • Clean lenses and place them in holders for wash and scratch coat machines.
  • Inspect lenses for cosmetic defects after scratch coat application.
  • Perform tests on various scratch coating baths to verify they are within specification.
  • Load lenses into holders for anti-reflective coating and monitor machines.
  • Operate and maintain associated tools and machinery.
  • Inspect small parts for defect-quality control.
  • Assemble small components using hand tools, requiring precision and attention to detail, and using correct techniques.
  • Work in a role with measurable standards – maintaining production goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
