About The Position

It is the aim of the 92nd Street Y Nursery School to create an atmosphere of shared responsibility, mutual respect, and a relatively equal division of labor during the school day. The Nursery School fosters a sense of commitment to the profession of Early Childhood Education by providing an environment that encourages professional and personal growth in a program that strives for excellence in teaching. The Associate Teachers works closely with the Head Teacher in planning, report writing, and parent communication, as well as in preparation of materials, clean-up, and all other classroom responsibilities. They work collaboratively with all other Nursery School staff to support the delivery of the school’s mission and vision as it pertains to teachers, parents, and children.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or in process of attaining a Master's Degree.
  • N.Y.S. Teacher Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and diplomatic communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience utilizing Brightwheel, Zoom and Google Photo.
  • Ability to work with a diverse cultural population.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain all relevant qualifications to comply with the New York City Department of Health requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create a harmonious atmosphere in the school by being flexible, respectful, and cooperative with all staff as well as sharing expertise and materials.
  • Develop long- and short-range goals and plan weekly and monthly activities with the team for children in all curriculum areas.
  • Provide support in completing written reports
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents with the goal of developing a partnership on behalf of the child.
  • Use appropriate, positive discipline techniques for guidance and group engagement.
  • Observe, evaluate, and keep record of the progress of each child and develop strategies for helping build on their strengths, develop independence, and support new development.
  • Attend regular teaching team meetings (weekly and daily, before and after class) to discuss and plan curriculum, incorporate team planning, discuss individual children, group dynamics and guidance techniques.
  • Responsible for the appearance of the classroom, preparation of materials, and clean-up.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies in accordance with established procedure.
  • Supervise children in all areas and activities both indoors and outdoors.
  • Attend all faculty meetings and keep the administration informed of pertinent issues regarding children, parents, program, or team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
